Why Go?-“The Story of a Cleveland Indians Fan”
To put it bluntly, the attendance this year has been pathetic.
This is not going to be an article complaining about the lack of attendance, or even complaining as a whole. It will be in regards to how infuriating the reasoning is.
“Oh, they’ll blow it in the end.”
“When a lot of people show up, we always lose.”
“The prices are insane!”
“Oh, I hate the Dolans.”
Are these reasons you as a fan have used or heard others say recently as an excuse not to go?
Rhetorical as that may be, I know the answer, because I too have heard it more than I should.
The Indians rank 29th out of 30 teams in attendance. They are 82-75. Do you know how many teams that are below .500 and beyond out of any form of contention are in front of them in those standings?
15 teams.
15 teams that average more fans than we do, and even perennial losers like the Cubs and Rockies average more fans than us. Frankly, its not even close in the standings.
If you don’t like baseball, I understand. There is a winning ball team in Cleveland folks.
The owner should be the last of your concern. Money is an alright excuse, but we are still technically in the bottom standings of ticket cost.
We have one of the best managers in the MLB, a young but extremely talented core and rotation.
So what is the problem?
Do you fervently believe Larry Dolan is holding this team back?
Or is the cost that much?
There have been many an excuse for not going, few legitimate. The Indians are a fun team to watch, one built on the very principle our beloved city lives on;
Hard Work.
This is a team that does not give up, and it may not always be pretty, but they’ve found some amazing ways to win ball games. Are they going to win the division or even make the postseason? Likely not. That does not mean that you shouldn’t support the only winning team in Cleveland right now.
There is not much else to say.
The support for this team physically is pathetic.
If you do not like baseball, that’s fine. But for teams like the Twins, White Sox, and Padres to be getting more fans consistently than us?
Sad.
Just, sad.
There is no excuse for our pitiful attendance. None.
As always,
Roll Tribe!
