What We Learned: Cavs vs Bucks

0

The Cavs found a way to win a sloppy game against the Bucks that they most likely would have lost in the beginning of the year. They were able to win even though they committed 19 turnovers and did not play solid defense until halfway through the 4th quarter. Here are a few things we can take away from the win.

• LeBron was right, Mike Miller needs more playing time. He showed that he has the ability to provide a much needed spark from off the bench. He hit two crucial threes in the second half and was able to grab seven boards. I would expect Miller to get more playing time in upcoming games, especially since this bench keeps underperforming.

• The bench is still awful. The Cavs’ bench only produced 12 points. David Blatt still hasn’t found a set rotation he can trust. This is easily the Cavs biggest weakness. Luckily the Big 3 were able to overcome the lack of bench production by combining for 81 points.

• Dion Waiters seems to be the odd man out on this team. He hasn’t found a productive role. Moving him to the bench seemed like a good idea, but he hasn’t produced there either. He only played 9 minutes and did not score. Dion Waiters has shown that he is expendable.

• The Cavs can win even when LeBron doesn’t have his best stuff. LeBron finished the game with 26 points, 10 assists, and 7 turnovers. He was 6/15 from the field and wasn’t able to find his rhythm scoring. It’s good to see Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving pick up the slack when LeBron is having an off night. LeBron can’t carry this team every night, and it’s good to see he doesn’t have to.

• I think we can say Kevin Love has finally found his role on this team. Kevin Love finished the game with 27 points on 10/16 shooting. Love led the team in shot attempts for the second time this season. It’s good to see the offense start to run through Love. This offense will continue to be successful when Love gets the ball. On nights where ball movement is stagnant, Love is the one that doesn’t get the touches he needs.

• Most important is that the Cavs are learning how to win games even when they don’t have their best stuff. This looked like a game that the Cavs would have lost a few weeks ago. Good teams have the ability to win games even when they don’t play their A game.
