What if Kevin Love Went to Golden State?

With the NBA season over, and the dogs days of summer soon to be upon us, it’s time to get into the nonsensical NBA articles. With the Warriors having won the NBA Finals in a somewhat convincing fashion, the Cavs are left to pick up the pieces. While we could see a bevy of moves coming in the near future, let’s go back in time and look at a move that wasn’t made.

Remember way back in the day, before the Cavs overcame a 3-1 deficit in the finals and before LeBron even made his triumphant and tear-jerking return to Cleveland? Back in the days when Kyrie Irving, Dion Waiters and Andrew Wiggins were seen as the future of the team? When the Cavs won the lottery, it set into motion the gears of the LeBron return, because he knew Cleveland could now swing a trade for another superstar. That superstar’s name was Kevin Love.

But before Cleveland had a deal in place with the double-double machine, the Warriors were hot on the trail of Love. In the summer of 2014, the Warriors put together a package that involved Klay Thompson, David Lee and a first round pick going to Minnesota in exchange for Kevin Love and Kevin Martin. Ultimately, the deal fell apart when Jerry West, part of the Warriors front office, fought against the trade so much that he threatened to quit his job if the trade went through.

Let’s look at what would have happened to the three teams involved here and see what would have transpired in this alternate NBA timeline.
