Were The Royals Trying To Lose To Guardians?

First, I’m not like filing a lawsuit against the Kansas City Royals for this feeling. Actually, I’m happy it happened because the Cleveland Guardians won a crucial game, closing in on the playoffs and trying to win the division.

First, read this tweet:

The Royals were 68-91 entering this last series of the game against the Guardians and these are meaningless to this season for that team. However, the walks in the last two innings have me feeling kind of odd…

Like, your team sucks. The games don’t matter. Even so, this is the Major Leagues. I actually joked in a previous article referring to this series:

While I joke, both head coaches should take the opposing coach to lunch this and say “Hey, I’ll get the bill if your team, like, kinda sorta purposely continues to suck because you know it, I know it and these games actually matter for us still. Expensive lunch, my friend, no?

Again, I am not accusing anyone, but it’s simply a feeling that something was up…

Arguments against this idea were the fact that the Royals did compete throughout the entire game until the end. The fact that the game didn’t start off this way and that the Royals actually hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 9th. Albeit down five at that time, but still trying.

The part I wonder is: how are there so many walks in such a short amount of play by any team in any game, with meaning or not? Players want to play well to make their case for the upcoming year, even if a chance at a playoff run is over…

I actually hope this is just a “nothing burger” and not something Major League Baseball starts investigating because it would taint any type of success this year and beyond for the team. I also feel like manager Stephen Vogt is a stand-up guy and wouldn’t partake in something like this type of cheating that has happened before by many others. Usually, with betting in mind by the player. Just look at former Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase…

To close, pardon the pun, this is not something I’m going to now boycott the Guardians or start a protest before the playoffs. It was simply a bizarre type of pitching and the circumstances had me raising my eyebrows, albeit still happy the team got said huge win that keeps them in first place with two games to go!

Fun Fact:

Everyone is telling me to be more mature, so let me just express what I learned last night:

I love balls.
