As each day passes, it becomes a more awkward situation between the Cleveland Browns and Baker Mayfield. It feels like a soap opera at this point, as Baker got upset because the Browns were meeting with Deshaun Watson. Baker requested a trade when he heard about the news. When talks fell apart, the Browns denied Mayfield’s request.

When the Browns finally completed the trade to acquire Watson and then give him a humungous contract, the Browns set their sights on finding a trade partner for Baker Mayfield. Two teams have been mentioned multiple times as a potential landing spot for Mayfield. The Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks. Carolina is looking to move on after one season with Sam Darnold and the Seahawks traded away Russell Wilson.

Seattle is a team that makes too much sense as they don’t have a starting quarterback. Seattle can’t seriously consider having Drew Lock or Geno Smith as their starting quarterback. Seattle is in rebuild mode though they still have solid wide receivers such as Tyler Lockett and D.K Metcalf. Carolina is a team that is ready to win now as they have a solid defense and have a superstar running back in Christian McCaffrey. Also, head coach Matt Rhule is on the hot seat. Surprisingly, the Detriot Lions are rumored as another team to grab a quarterback as they may look to move on from Jared Goff.

What exactly could the Browns get in return for Mayfield? Most likely not a first-round pick. Honestly, the Browns would have to pay most of his remaining 18 million dollars and could fetch a second-round and fourth-round pick for Baker. Last season Baker Mayfield threw 17 touchdowns and had 13 interceptions. If Carolina trades for him, that is an upgrade from Sam Darnold, Cam Newton and P.J. Walker, who combined for 13 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.

I’m sure Browns fans are feeling poignant about the Mayfield situation.

Baker Mayfield guided this team to the playoffs for the first time in years. He also played through a gruesome injury last season. The time has come to thank Baker for his hard work and dedication to this organization. It is time to pack his bags and send him elsewhere. It is what is best for both parties and he deserves another chance to start elsewhere.
