To be honest, I am not in a state of abject misery after the Browns’ Week 13 loss to the Houston Texans. Perhaps decades of Cleveland fandom have jaded me, but my only true hope was that Baker Mayfield would make it off the field in one piece.
Houston’s JJ Watt and the balance of his defensive teammates are a formidable force to be reckoned with on any given gameday. For this reason, I decided to keep my expectations low. So, it came as a shock when I learned that not only was Baker sack free for the day, he also managed to throw for 397 yards. That’s a lot of yards in a losing effort.
Since I really do believe in giving credit where it is due, an impressive trio shares the Top Dawg title for Week 13. My Top Dawgs are our interior offensive linemen JC Tretter, Joel Bitonio and Kevin Zeitler. The big three in the middle did a surprisingly solid job keeping Mayfield vertical. Although he was hurried and harassed all day, he was not sacked.
In my opinion, that is good progress, especially against a strong defense. In our first full season without Joe Thomas, it is encouraging to see the o-line standing its ground and guys inside played a big part in Mayfield’s yards.
Well done, gentlemen. You are the Top Dawgs for Week 13.
