Hey, Cleveland.

It’s Tuesday already and we are one week closer to NFL football again. Yes, I know that is 23 weeks and two days away from the start of preseason. For the record, that’s 163 days. We have a long wait ahead of us, so let’s look back at the player featured in this week’s edition of Top Dawg Tuesday: Zane Gonzales.

I featured Zane as my Top Dawg for week seven of the 2017 season. The game was against the Tennessee Titans and it seemed like we had a real chance to win that one. However, the football deities were not on our side and not only did we lose, but that was also the fateful day that Joe Thomas went down and stayed down for the first time in his fantastic career. Zane was the single bright spot on that grim day. He scored all nine of the Browns’ points and each field goal was over 30 yards. The longest was a 54- yard rocket that gave those of us in attendance that day a reason to cheer.

Unfortunately, Zane’s rookie successes would not follow him into the 2018 season. After missing critical field goals in Weeks 1 and 2, the Browns and Gonzales parted ways.

The Arizona Cardinals picked up Gonzales and he played the final five games of the 2018 season as a Cardinal. He was 7-9 on field goals in Arizona and 5-6 for the point after attempts.

While his time in Cleveland was short-lived, Zane Gonzales gave the Browns faithful a few reasons to smile during an epically painful season.
