8. Bill Selby Walkoff Over The Great One – July 14, 2002
The Indians are down 7-0 to the Yankees in Cleveland. Eventually, the squad gets the score to 7-6 with Bill Selby up at the plate and the bases loaded in the 9th. Yankees legendary closer Mariano Rivera is on the mound. He would finish his career with 652 saves but would NOT have one that afternoon at Jacobs Field. Selby takes a pitch and belts it to the right field seats to give the Indians the win, 10-7.
This game is so special to me because I had the opportunity to watch it at my Bubbe and Poppa’s house. I went running around the home screaming, slipped, fell, and banged my chin on the floor. I started crying but was lucky enough to get Bob Evans for dinner after. My poppa has since passed; I am lucky to have my Bubbe these days. That memory is amazing.
