THREE Potential First Round Trade Partners for the Browns

Pick #31 – Los Angeles Rams

Why would the Rams do this?

The Rams have traded away a lot of picks over the past few drafts to get players like QB Jared Goff, WR Brandin Cooks and WR Sammy Watkins. Using multiple picks to acquire one player has left the Rams depleted of young talent. As Goff is going to be getting paid soon, the Rams will have to part ways with some of the veterans who cost more. Getting multiple draft picks for this 31st pick will help replenish the stock of players coming up.

Why would the Browns do this?

Again, this would be to get a player like DT Jeffery Simmons. Simmons is coming off an ACL injury and may be unable to play this season. Drafting Simmons in the first round would give the Browns the 5th year option on him that they wouldn’t have if he’s drafted in the 2nd round. Getting the 5th year option would make many more comfortable if the Browns would need to redshirt Simmons for the year.

While any and every option will be on the table for Browns GM John Dorsey, it is important to understand that if a trade will take place it will not happen until draft night and only if a player that Dorsey really wants starts to drop. Furthermore, the higher the Browns would have to go, the more they will have to give up.
