Not many people know about Max Moroff, but allow him to introduce himself with his play on the field.
Moroff, who the Indians acquired in the Erik Gonzalez trade with the Pirates that also netted OF Jordan Luplow, is another utility player that Terry Francona can employ wherever he sees fit (i.e. Mike Aviles, Ryan Raburn and the aforementioned Gonzalez).
With injuries to almost 3/4 of the infield, there’s no doubt that Moroff will make the squad. Moroff can bring his .308 BA and .368 OBP from spring training into the regular season, although he should probably leave the 15 strikeouts in 20 games back in Arizona.
Moroff’s career fielding percentage is .995, so all he has to do is continue to bring above-average defense to a good defensive team and he will be alright, even if he doesn’t continue to hit in the .300s, but it’s always welcome.
