Richard Lecounte III
The rookie safety from Georgia has magnets for hands. He’s snatched two interceptions and probably should have had a third in that first preseason game. He was drafted in the later rounds as well by the Browns but has turned into a very reliable, aggressive player that fears no one and has a nose for the ball. With veteran John Johnson, newly acquired safety from the Los Angeles Rams, I’ll be interested to see how the Browns use Lecounte when the season starts.
Having played at Georgia for three years, he was called on by those teams to be a leader of the defense and he was solid throughout his college career. He combined to intercept seven passes while he was a junior and senior. He has always been an excellent tackler too and so far this preseason for the Browns he’s been continuing his knack for intercepting the ball.
It’s a crowded safety room with Johnson there and veteran Ronnie Harrison returning. Grant Delpit, the Browns draft pick from a year ago, is there too but recovering from a serious injury that no one seems to know how it will affect him. I look for Lecounte to make the final roster and provide for more thrills for the Browns Super Bowl-hungry fans!
