This Bullpen is Bull****

Before the season started, the Indians pitching was thought to be one of their strongest points on the team. While part of the starting rotation has done their part, Kluber has posted a 2.34 ERA and has shown his greatness already this season and is looking to add another CY Young award to his mantle.

Trevor Bauer has surprised many with a 2.59 ERA this season and has solidified himself in the starting rotation Bauer blew past the Tigers this week when he pitched eight innings giving up four hits and fanning 10 batters. Bauer has had his up and downs throughout his first six seasons with a 4.75 ERA, but he’s shown his worth with the ERA that is 2.16 down.

Michael Clevinger is yet another surprise in the starting rotation. The 2018 season is Clevinger’s third season in the big league’s and it looks like he’s carrying over his success from the last season when he posted a 12-6 record with the Tribe while carrying a 2.70 ERA.

The surprises and unexpected production has helped with pitcher Josh Tomlin not playing up to standards that he’s set before this season. Tomlin has a record of 30-20 over the last three seasons but has fallen on hard times with an extremely subpar first two months with a 7.84 ERA and a 0-4 record.

Now onto the bad news. The Indians have been touted for an amazing starting rotation but also an amazing bullpen staff. This season is a completely different story. The bullpen exploded against the Tigers earlier this week when they were completely embarrassed by the Tigers in a huge blown game.

The big bullpen pieces, Tyler Olsen 6.23 ERA, Nick Goody 6.94 and Dan Otero 7.47 ERA are a combined 14.99 points higher in ERA this season which is signs of a complete implosion. Olsen is the biggest jump as he never gave up a run in 2017 but has since seen his ERA inflate to 6.23 which has been one of the biggest let downs this season.

Zach McAllister has been one of the bigger weaknesses in the bullpen, but before this season he hadn’t posted a season ERA above 4.00 since 2014. McAllister has symbolized a white flag when put in these days with his 7.47 ERA this season.

We all know it’s early on in the season and that the bullpen could turn it around as quick as a couple solid outings, but for now, it’s horrible to watch this bullpen struggle when you know that the team has so much potential!
