Free agency has been buzzing across the NFL this offseason, especially for our Cleveland Browns. The Browns just made a quarterback move that has surprised most of us. Instead of the opportunity to bring QB Joe Flacco back who helped the Browns get to the playoffs last season, Cleveland decided to sign former Saints QB Jameis Winston to a one-year deal.

This seems to be getting backlash as many fans are questioning General Manager Andrew Berry’s decision to not even consider giving Flacco a contract offer. Even though this is upsetting for most fans, everyone has to remember that this is still QB Deshaun Watson’s team. The hope is Watson is healthy and at full strength this season.

Watson’s last start for Cleveland was in Baltimore against the Ravens where he led a comeback win defeating Baltimore 33-31. The hope is that Watson comes back with that same 2nd half-playing style to lead the Browns to another successful season.

Ultimately, the Browns need Watson to stay healthy and to play outstanding football for the entire 2024 NFL season. Even though Flacco will not be returning, Jameis Winston can be a decent bridge for the Browns if Watson does miss a few games.

Another positive way to think about this scenario is the Browns signing Winston may have saved them some cap space money over resigning Flacco. This could be significant for players like WR Amari Cooper and star HB Nick Chubb to re-sign and restructure their contracts.

At the end of the day, this is not the end of the world. The Browns will still look to be contenders and Watson will look to show out and have a bounce-back healthy season for 2024!
