The Browns Perfect Off-Season – Take 2
Let the mock draft mania begin. Now begins what is the start of every Browns fan’s favorite time of the year – NFL Draft Season. The winless Browns need more than Jesus to fix this roster. Enter former Packers GM John Dorsey. Dorsey inherits what many believe to be a “GM’s dream situation.” He has a slew of draft picks and over 100 million dollars in cap space to work with. The final question is, will the Browns finally get it right?
The Browns’ biggest need is a QB; that’s been a missing key for them since they returned in ’99. Kirk Cousins seems to be on everybody’s radar. Cousins really has the option to go anywhere. But nobody in the NFL can match what the Browns would offer him if they decide to do so. I cannot see Dorsey passing up the opportunity in getting an already proven veteran like Cousins. With that said, I believe the Browns will sign Cousins for at least a 5-year deal north of 100 million dollars. Now that the Browns get their QB, now adding playmakers at WR will be the next step.
Yes, the Browns do have Josh Gordon and Corey Coleman. But, Gordon is someone with a troubled past and Coleman has issues with dropping the football. Allen Robinson seems to be the name that has surfaced around as a possible signing. Along with Robinson, there is a possibility that the Browns could reunite with former WR Terrelle Pryor, who put up career-high numbers with the Browns two seasons ago. I think the Browns will sign Robinson. He has so much talent, it’s hard to pass up. Robinson, however, is coming off a torn ACL, so that will be something watch out for.
Now, for my jaw-dropper/sleeper free agent signing of the offseason: Browns will add a serious defensive player to their secondary by bringing in former Saints safety Kenny Vaccaro. He seems like a great fit in a Gregg Williams defense.
Free Agency Prediction/Outlook:
The Browns need to be smart with their money, but they also need to have the urgency to bring in some talent. I think the Browns should sign at least three players this offseason. And I think they will:
- Kirk Cousins, QB
- Allen Robinson, Wr
- Kenny Vaccaro, S
Now, for the most anticipated day for Browns fans – NFL Draft Day. The Browns can control this entire draft. They can trade or stay put. The first round is so vital. The Browns have the 1st and 4th pick. With the signing of Cousins, I believe the Browns will not take a QB number one. The Browns will draft Saquon Barkley and get arguably the best all-around RB in the draft. Then, at number four, the Browns will select Minkah Fitzpatrick to complete the first round. After that, it’s up to the Browns front office to do their job. My job is done here!
Browns 1st Round Selections:
- Saquon Barkley, RB
- Minkah Fitzpatrick, S/CB
