The Browns selected Jordan Payton with their first pick in the fifth round. 6’1 207 pounds is a stockier size for a wide receiver. Strong kid that helps him battle for the ball with corners. Payton lacks the speed that most would like in a receiver. He’s a slow route runner, prototypical possession receiver. With the next
With the next selection, the Browns selected Spencer Drango, guard, Baylor. I am not sure what it is with the Browns and Baylor Bears, but there is a connection there. At 6’6 315 pounds, Drango could easily swing outside and play guard. The issue with Baylor lineman is going from a spread offense to a pro-style offense. At his size, he is a strong guy who can move people at will, but is slow in his blocking and does not move great.
Later in the round, the Browns selected Rashard Higgins, WR, Colorado State. “Hollywood” comes from a pro style offense where he flourished. I really liked Higgins headed into the draft. He can create separation and has excellent hands, but his 4.6 40 time dropped him quickly.
The very next pick, the Browns selected Trey Caldwell, DB, Louisiana-Monroe. At only 5’9 and 186 pounds, Caldwell is extremely undersized but possesses a lot of physical tools that could work in adding depth to the secondary and contributing on special teams.
