Gomes already rates as one of the top catchers in the game. When it comes to catchers, defense comes first, and anything given offensively is a plus. That’s what makes Gomes so special, because he balances out his Gold-Glove caliber defense with his power at the plate. Now that he knows what a full season behind the plate is like, Gomes should be primed for a breakout year, at the age most players hit their prime (27).
