The 7-footer from Cameroon

The Cameroon Native, Joel Embiid is rumored to be at the top of the Cleveland Cavaliers draft board and why wouldn’t he be? The 7-footer out of Kansas proves to be the big man the Cavs so desperately need. He is a two way player who has averaged 11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.6 blocks per contest in his freshman year with the Jayhawks. He also brings the Cavaliers the ability to alter shots in the paint, but with his nagging back injury which is claimed to be a stress fracture in his lower back caused him to miss both the BIG 12 and NCAA tournament. Can he be the 2014 1st pick of the NBA draft? The Cavs being unsure of Embiid’s  health now have to look into the possibility of choosing Parker or Wiggins over Embiid. Joel-Embiid

With a draft class that is deemed to be stacked the Cavaliers have great options as those three picks would work out well in Cleveland. With the likely departure of Luol Deng, the Cavs will be looking for a skilled small forward who can shoot and play well on the defensive side of the ball. They can also address a bigger issue finding a big man to play both sides of the ball as Anderson Varejao tends to get nagging injuries that tend to sideline him for weeks at a time and with Tristan Thompson not being able to anchor the defense all by himself Embiid would be the clear choice. Embiid however did not attend the NBA’s rookie combine in Chicago last week adding a big question mark to his health status. Embiid’s agent is still in the process of deciding to send the center to Cleveland for a physical and interview, but if Embiid proves that his back is good to go by the time of the draft, I believe the Cavs will go with the Freshman center out of Kansas for the 1st pick of the 1st round in the NBA draft.
