If you didn’t see the game between the Dallas Mavericks and Cleveland Cavaliers, then you don’t know what you missed out on. What an incredible finish at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on Tuesday night. In his first season with the Cavs, guard Max Strus will give the city of Cleveland something to talk about for years because this was a miraculous ending. Strus hit a buzzer-beating game-winning shot from halfcourt to give the Cavs a 121-119 victory over the Mavs.

The Cavs trailed by 10 with less than five minutes left to go. Six Cavs players had double figures. Donovan Mitchell led the Cavs with 31 points, seven rebounds and six assists. The hero Max Strus added 21 points. Jarrett Allen added 19 points with nine boards. Strus’ shot is the second-longest game-winner in the 3-point era (1979-80).

The Cavaliers won the rebound game (46-37), but they need to cut down on their turnovers. They committed 16 turnovers. The Cavs shot 53% from the field and 50% from downtown. The team struggled from downtown in the first quarter but slowly picked it up in the second quarter.

Luka Doncic was Luka Doncic. He had a game-high 45 points to go along with 14 points. Kyrie Irving, the former Cavalier, added 30 points. The Mavs led by as many as 15 at one point. Both teams played a solid game, but the Cavs found a way to get it down. Yes, it could be down to luck with that 59-footer by Strus. However, a win is a win. It’s a heartbreaking loss for the Mavs but a memorable and impressive victory for the Cavs.

Cleveland improves to 38-19 in the season. They’re in second place in the Eastern Conference standings, trailing the Boston Celtics by 7.5 games back. The Cavs will now travel to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday.
