The 40-point man struck lightning in the Nation’s Capitol on Wednesday night. Donovan Mitchell scored and left the Cavs with 40 points to lift the team to victory over the Washington Wizards with the final score of 114-106. Mitchell scored 14 of his 40 points in the fourth quarter. That’s the best quarter to show up the most especially coming from the Cavs’ best player. The team has won 15 of their last 16 games.
Although the Cavs lost the rebounding game to the Wizards, who are one of the worst teams in the league, their scoring won them this game. Mitchell didn’t do it by himself. Evan Mobley is looking sharp after being out with an injury. He contributed by scoring 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the field. This team is playing some really good basketball. The Cavs are still competing in the rankings in the East with the New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks.
With the trade deadline in place, should the Cavs add another scorer to their roster? My answer is Yes. They need someone to come off the bench and give them a basket. The more scoring options you have the better and if he’s a two-way player, then it takes off a lot of load off a guy like Donovan Mitchell. You need both to go far in the postseason. Mitchell needs to stay away from getting bounced out in the first round.
This is Donovan Mitchell’s 18th 40-point game in 108 games with Cleveland. It would be a great feeling to see Donovan Mitchell win the NBA MVP honor as a Cavalier someday and hopefully win an NBA championship to go along with it.
Cleveland improved to 33-16 in the season and is currently in second place in the Eastern Conference.
