Terry Francona calls a team meeting to “ease his players minds”
Apparently Terry Francona has had enough of the early struggles the Indians have had, so he called a team meeting. Calling a team meeting this early is an odd thing to do. The team started out 7-10 last year, an ended up with a 92 win season and a playoff appearance. About the meeting, Francona said “I just felt like maybe half-reassuring and kind of explaining, remember who we are and how we go about things. We’re getting tested a little bit and that’s part of it. We’ve been tested before. Just continue to fight through things together.” About their recent struggles, Nick Swisher said “Sometimes you have rough starts to the year. We have to pull together as a squad and as a unit and figure this thing out.” It’s good to hear that from Swisher, who is especially struggling this year, batting .181 with an OBP of .268. Since the Indians were a playoff team last year, the city of Cleveland has very high expectations for the team, which I believe has put a lot of pressure on them and has caused these early struggles. As soon as the Indians can settle in and relax, they will do what they have to do and make the playoffs yet again this year.
