There were many non-roster invitees who came to the Indians 2014 Spring Training camp looking to make the team, one of them was Nyger Morgan. He spent 2013 in Japan, but was coming into to camp to try and play in his first major league game since 2012 with the Brewers. Part of the reason why Morgan made the 2014 Cleveland Indians team was the injury of starting CF Michael Bourn. Bourn was out for the first few weeks of the season. Also, the effort Morgan put in was just outstanding, Francona said it seemed like “he was on a mission.”

Morgan did more than what was expected of him batting .348 with 3 stolen bases and 4 RBIs in just 9 games. When Michael Bourn returned, he was sent down to AAA Columbus. Morgan has one of the best attitudes you can ask out of a player. When the news broke that Bourn was going to be activated off the DL, people were somewhat sad that Morgan was going to be sent down to AAA. Morgan has been a instant fan favorite here in Cleveland.”He did absolutely everything he needed to while he was up here,” said right fielder David Murphy. “He had a great showing. It’s just an example of how unfortunate it is that there are only 25 roster spots on 30 teams for only so many guys. He did a great enough job to where if we do need another outfielder at some point, he’s definitely going to be called upon. We appreciate what he brought to this team. I’m sure he’ll be needed at some point.”

Bourn is placed on the day to day DL for his hamstring. It is just precautionary and he could be out 1-5 days. To make room for Morgan, LHP Nick Hagadone is optioned to AAA Columbus. As much as it is important to see one of the Indian’s top paid players in the lineup everyday, many fans are also glad to Tony Plush back at CF and leading off for the Tribe.
