It’s Tuesday, June 6 and the Cleveland Cavaliers are currently down 2-0 in the NBA Finals. We are coming back home to play two straight games in front of the best fans in the NBA and have a chance to even up the series before going back to Oakland.
The Cavs still have a chance to make this series, but some fans have turned to the option of blowing the team up when they’re only down 2-0 in the NBA Finals.
People believe the team should go young; they are currently the oldest team by average in the NBA. In my opinion, the team benefits at times with their age, especially in the playoffs. Look at teams like the Timberwolves who are young and can’t even make the playoffs with the talent they have. Teams benefit from age only if they’re able to make the playoffs and go far in it. The Cavs would not benefit from being younger and if they were to go younger they would have to completely renovate the whole team.
The Cavs aren’t broken either; it’s hard to play against a team that has Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson, the best shooters on the planet, not on the Cavs. Cleveland will have to make tweaks during this series and during the off-season; they need defenders and part of me wonders if DeAndre Liggins would make a difference on the defensive end although he is an offensive liability. Another problem is that the role players are not playing well; Korver and Deron Williams, we’re talking about you. Deron Williams and Kyle Korver are NOT playing anywhere near the level they have in the past.
The biggest problem that the Cavs can easily fix is Kyrie Irving. We need Kyrie to elevate his play like he did during last year’s finals. Kyrie isn’t making the plays he did last time. There’s not much to say other than Kyrie needs to be Kyrie and he must show up for all 48 minutes if they want to win.
