Steelers Game: You’re Allowed to Forgive Deshaun Watson
As I have to say at the beginning of each article. So far this year, I was wrong about Deshaun Watson not being the starter. I said many bad things and posted many bad articles criticizing the Cleveland Browns for this choice and such.
With the Browns 2-1 and an opportunity to beat the game, I want to remind everyone that it doesn’t mean you are immoral to like what a person on the team you love is doing. No one is judging you for being a Browns fan because of what Deshaun Watson has done in the past.
Let’s be honest and I have to give credit to my brother for reminding me of this fact. Sports and especially football, are about winning. Most of the whole character deal dissipates if said person has success. We’ve seen it with so many stars in the past, with their greatness trumping their personal lives. And that is in no way to dispute what they did or allegedly did. It’s to say your team is your team no matter what..
I’m rooting for the Browns no matter what. Same with the Guardians and Cavs because Cleveland is my city.
Now, it’s okay to also be frustrated with Watson’s performance and injuries these past few years because they are also a reason to dislike a player. Here in the sports realm, that’s where it’s reasonable. If someone at the McDonald’s register didn’t ring up your order correctly, you’d be frustrated with them but not be “hated.” Also, you’d probably still go back to McDonald’s. For their Diet Coke…obviously that is like crack in a drink!
The point is that if Deshaun Watson were to win the Browns a Super Bowl, there are likely “fans” that will not celebrate because of their Watson feelings.
As the great Rocky Balboa says, “If I can change, and you can change, everybody can change!” This is true with Watson on the field and is true with your view of the Browns overall, even with him as quarterback.
I wrote in a previous article that this start against the Steelers may change the way a vast majority of fans change their view of Watson. And that’s great. Let it be his play and not his personal life or contract and performance/injury of the past. Forgiveness is a part of life for all relationships…righth?
Thursday night might make that a bit easier, or just the opposite… Because, after all, the players play.
