28 year old safety Donte Whitner is returning home! The former San Francisco 49er has signed a 4-year, 28 million dollar contract with our Cleveland Browns. Heading into his 9th season, the veteran is sure to bring some much needed leadership into the locker room as an anchor for our defense.
Whiter has made 669 tackles and snagged 10 interceptions throughout his career with the Bills and 49ers. Last year, 73 tackles and two picks. He’s never afraid to lay a huge hit on a receiver coming across the middle, and his tough-man’s attitude is something I love in a defender. The Browns must continue play tough on defense next year.
The Ohio State graduate seems very excited to return home via his Twitter:
Whitner is a great pick-up as former Browns safety T.J. Ward has signed with the Denver Broncos. The two play the position very similarly – hard hitting run stoppers!
I have had a personal relationship with the Whitner family, as they reside here in the Cleveland area. They are really great people, and I am happy Donte will be a member of our Cleveland Browns!
Best of luck to Donte with the transition, and Go Browns!
