Speed Kills: Rajai Davis and Final Postseason Roster

Heading into Thursday, the eve of the Indians opener with the Houston Astros, the 2016 World Series hero was not guaranteed a roster spot.

Rajai Davis has been granted the final postseason roster spot. Made famous by his 2016 Game 7 home run off of Aroldis Chapman, the Indians stuck by Davis for his speed and base-running abilities.

Davis beat out infield youngster, Erik Gonzalez.

“No one has a crystal ball, but we went with who had a better chance to impact a series and we felt like Raj had a better chance,” Terry Francona said about his decision to keep Davis. “It’s nothing against Gonzy. But if Gonzy gets in that meant something went wrong.”

The Indians and Astros will play Game 1 of the ALDS at 2:05 p.m. on Friday at Minute Maid Park. They do not have to submit their final 25-man roster to the league offices until 10 a.m. Friday. But, with Davis, here is what the Cleveland Indians roster will look like for the ALDS:

Starting Pitchers: Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco and Mike Clevinger.

Bullpen Pitchers: Trevor Bauer, Shane Bieber, Cody Allen, Dan Otero, Adam Cimber, Andrew Miller, Oliver Perez and Brad Hand.

Infield: Fransisco Lindor, Jose Ramirez, Yonder Alonso, Josh Donaldson, Yandy Diaz and Edwin Encarnacion.

Outfield: Greg Allen, Brandon Guyer, Jason Kipnis, Michael Brantley, Melky Cabrera and Davis.

Catchers: Yan Gomes and Roberto Perez.

Expect the Indians pitchers and hitting lineup be subject to change in different scenarios and if the Indians advance to the ALCS.
