Sexton Continues to Shine Despite Loss to Golden State

Collin Sexton continued his streak of strong performances this season in the Cavs’ final road game at Oracle Arena. Despite falling to the Warriors 120-114 on Friday Night, Collin Sexton led an inspired performance in the 2nd half against one of the best defenses in the league.

Shooting 1/8 in the first half, Sexton and the Cavs came roaring back to cut what was once a 21-point game to a three-point deficit inside three minutes. Through a combination of anticipation on full court passes, hitting big threes and getting to the basket, Sexton shot 9/13 for 27 and came within one missed three-pointer over Draymond Green from tying the game up.

Sexton really showed a killer instinct and a willingness to run the offense in crunch time, against a team none other than the Warriors. This is a great sign for Cavalier fans, as Sexton has the energy, skill and confidence to compete to the final buzzer.

Eventually, however, Steph Curry hit a big three-pointer to put Golden State up by six with less than two minutes to go and the Cavs couldn’t generate any late-game offense to recover, leading to an eventual defeat.

Although it was disappointing to fall to the hated Warriors, Sexton’s development should not be overlooked and he gave us a great show to watch. As the Cavs go into the offseason, hopefully they can both find a good piece to put around him in the draft (which the Cavs recently secured the joint-best to land the No. 1 overall pick) while he further develops his game.
