The Cleveland Crunch have been on a terror this season in the M2 soccer league. The Crunch have been arguably the most exciting team in the league. This weekend the Crunch will welcome in rival Chicago Mustangs in what will be the Rubber match in the three-game set between the two teams.

Chicago won the first game back on April 8-9. The Crunch took the second game in blowout fashion, 14-2, a couple of weeks later in Muskegon, Michigan. This will be the final home game of the season for the Crunch and what better way to end the home stretch of the schedule.

With their sweep of the Omaha Kings two weeks ago, the Crunch are in sole possession of first place at 6-1. Chicago has struggled during their season but still sits in third place at 5-4. The Crunch also lead M2 in scoring with a +40 differential. For those at home that translates to an average of 13 goals a game. That stat alone reminds fans of the 90’s Championship Crunch teams that featured an explosive offense and physical defense.

This will be the third and final game for the Crunch in the Great Lakes Invitational, An in-season play-in tournament that will see who makes the four-team playoffs in July. To the Crunch, this game is a big deal. The team has been on a rampage since losing in Chicago due to some sketchy officiating calls and non-calls. As seen in the games since that Chicago game the Crunch are still pissed about that as they have won their last five games by scoring an average of 12 goals a game.

I, personally, picked the Crunch to close out this series against Chicago with a win and given the evidence over the last few games, I don’t expect that to change. As an added bonus and motivation for this game, this weekend’s game will be FAN APPRECIATION night, so expect a sold-out crowd to be loud and disruptive for the Mustangs. Also, keep in mind that the Crunch are and can possibly close out their home schedule undefeated. If that happens, whoever the Crunch sees in the playoffs will have nothing coming ( old street slang meaning they have their work cut out for them).

Game time for this weekend’s game is at 7 pm at the Soccerplex in North Olmstead, Ohio, with the first fifty fans receiving a Crunch water Bottle and all fans will receive a special Crunch “rally towel.” The Crunch are gearing up for a playoff run, so come out and show your support!

IT’S CRUNCH TIME!!
