Sports provide an escape from reality for many of us. It helps us deal with everyday life. It’s a way for us to cope with the uncertainty of life. In an ever changing world, sports are something that will always be there. Today, the sports world lost one of it’s best.

Stuart Scott was the face of Sportscenter for many of us. He was the reason we stayed up late at night to watch it. He was the reason we yelled BOYAH after hitting a home run while playing waffle ball in the backyard. Or, “He’s as cool as the other side of the pillow,” after a teammate hit a shot. But he was more than that. He felt like family to us. He was someone we counted on. We knew that no matter how bad of a day we were having we could turn on ESPN and he’d be there waiting for us.

This video shows the true impact he had on his colleague Hannah Storm.

He truly revolutionized the industry. He changed the perception of a sports anchor. He made it fun. He connected with our generation in a way no one else could. Stuart Scott wasn’t afraid to be himself, and he let us know that. He wasn’t going to change who he was for anyone, and we liked that about him. He was someone we looked up to and wanted to be like. But most of all he was an excellent role model for us. He showed us that we could reach our dreams.

On January 4, 2015 Stuart Scott lost his battle with cancer. “When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live.” That’s how Stu lived. Cancer didn’t beat him, he beat cancer. My thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones he left behind.

The next time LeBron hits a big shot don’t be afraid to yell BOYAH for Stu. You know that’s what he’d do if he was watching the game. We can’t thank you enough. Sports won’t be the same without you.

Rest in peace Stuart Scott. All of us on the CST team will greatly miss you. As will Cleveland, the entire sports world and anyone else you had an impact on, big or small.
