Right Field Rupture – Carson, Francoeur OUT
Decisions have to be made towards the tail end of spring training, and the outcomes were not so hot for veteran right fielders Jeff Francoeur and Matt Carson. Francoeur, released. Carson, to report to triple-A Columbus after camp.
Jeff Francoeur was signed as an non-roster invitee to camp in hopes of giving one more year of service to a good major league club. Unfortunately, there just wasn’t room for him. David Murphy, Ryan Raburn and Nick Swisher all have the ability to play the right field position.
Francoeur has played for nine seasons on five different teams. In 2006 and 2007, Francoeur appeared in all 162 games for the Atlanta Braves. 19 and 29 home runs along with 103 and 105 RBI’s respectively. Point being, the man has had some great years in the past. Wishing Jeff nothing but the best!
Matt Carson has lived in the minor leagues throughout his 12 year career. However, last year he did help the Indians down the stretch. Seven hits in eleven at bats including a walk off single to right. The #SeptemberSurge included him.
The 25 man roster appears very tight when guys like these have to be cut. Both would have definitely assisted the Tribe in some way.
