Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam keeps whipping out his checkbook as today Browns cornerback Denzel Ward has agreed to a five-year 100.5 million dollar extension. Approximately 75 million is guaranteed money. This deal now makes Denzel Ward the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history. Denzel Ward is a dynamic playmaker that the Browns drafted him 4th overall in 2018. The 24 – year old had three interceptions, a tackle for a loss, and a half-sack last season.
There is a downside to the Denzel Ward extension, he has an injury history and has played in 52 career games. Ward has missed games due to concussions, hip, groin and hamstring injuries. Ward has 145 solo tackles, 10 interceptions and two touchdowns in his career.
Denzel is a leader on the defensive side of the ball and it comes as no surprise he received the extension. As long as he can stay healthy, he should live up to his contract as it is for five years. General manager Andrew Berry will add more pieces to the defense as the draft is soon approaching. Browns fans soak it in, the better times lie ahead.
