The Cleveland Cavaliers had one of the most surprising seasons in the NBA last year. Point guard Darius Garland had a breakout season and became an all-star. Jarrett Allen was named an all-star following an injury to James Harden. Rookie Evan Mobley was runner-up to Scottie Barnes to win Rookie of the Year. Those three Cavalier players should make up the core for a long time. You can write those three in with sharpie into the starting five.

Point Guard

Darius Garland is locked in at the one. He is the starting point guard and will be for a long time. DG the PG signed a five-year $193 million contract this off-season. He definitely earned the largest contract in franchise history.

Shooting Guard

As far as the starting shooting guard position goes, that one is the most up in the air. The Cavs have a few options. Isaac Okoro and Caris LeVert seem to have a good chance at the spot. It all depends on who has the more productive offseason. Of course, restricted free agent Collin Sexton could throw a wrench into things if he re-signs with the Cavs. Either way Cleveland has three viable starting caliber options at the two spot.

Shooting Forward

Lauri Markkanen was the starting shooting forward for the Cavs whenever he was healthy last season. Cleveland became one of the most surprising teams in the league because of Koby Altman’s vision of starting three seven-foot players. This took the league by storm and the Cavs were one of the best defensive teams in the NBA because of it. Lauri is the most likely starting shooting forward and barring any trades he can be locked in at this spot.

Power Forward

Evan Mobley is about as locked in at the starting power forward spot as it gets. Mobley was a center in college and many in the NBA didn’t think he could compete with bigger stronger centers at the professional level. As Mobley gets stronger he could transition into a center, but for now he is the perfect power forward for the Cavs.

Center

Jarrett Allen, returning all-star is going to be the starting center for the Cavs as long as he is here. The duo of Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen is one of the strongest defensive front-courts in the entire league. As long as these two are playing together with Darius Garland the Cavs will be playoff contenders.

Final Prediction

PG : Darius Garland

SG: Caris LeVert

SF: Lauri Markkanen

PF: Evan Mobley

C: Jarrett Allen
