Position By Position Preview- Cavs Vs. Thunder

Cavs vs. Thunder: 1/26/15 Preview

On 1/26/15, the Cavs (24-20) take on the Thunder (22-21) in a game which is easily the biggest heat check of the season. The game can demonstrate to the league our championship potential and may convince other teams that the Cavs are finally, seriously good.

Not only does it put our five game win streak to the test, but it also marks two big debuts. First off, Cavaliers former fourth overall pick Dion Waiters makes his first appearance in The Q as a Thunder player, and his performance and crowd response will be very interesting to watch as the game progresses. Additionally, the game works as LeBron’s debut against the Thunder as a Cavalier since his return. While on the heat, James established a kind of rivalry against SF Kevin Durant’s Thunder due to a 2012 NBA Finals. Following the play style of LBJ against the Thunder is always fun, and watching him play against the Thunder as a Cav once again will undoubtedly be enjoyable.

The teams have faced off once this season, with the Thunder winning 103-94 in Oklahoma City. The LeBron-less Cavs got double-doubles from both Tristan Thompson and Kevin Love, but only shot 36.5% from the field, an absolutely horrid performance. Kevin Durant and PG Russell Westbrook combined for 45 points and had some pretty solid bench play from guards Reggie Jackson, Jeremy Lamb, and Anthony Morrow. However, this Cavs team looks quite different, as acquisitions of SG’s J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert have positively influenced our offensive play style and C Timofey Mozgov has upped the Cavs aggression on defense and has seemed to improve drastically. The game looks to be within Cavalier reach but seems to be up in the air.
