I was on the 8th-grade middle school soccer team. Now, I didn’t score a goal the entire season, but regardless, that is the length of my soccer career.
The World Cup peaks my interest like it does for most Americans. I saw that the United States Women won 13-0 over Thailand and I chuckled a bit.
Of course, some people were very critical that they kept on scoring, goal after goal, embarrassing the opponent.
If you don’t want to get throttled by that much, here is an idea for you:
GET A BETTER TEAM. THEN…PLAY BETTER.
Here were all the goals:
Alex Morgan 12′, 53′, 74′, 81′, 87′, Rose Lavelle 20′, 56′, Lindsey Horan 32′, Sam Mewis 50′, 54′, Megan Rapinoe 79′, Mallory Pugh 84′, Carli Lloyd 90+2′
I’ve never been a fan of easing up because it is a blowout in any sport. In this case, those goals could actually matter if there were to be a tiebreaker situation within the group.
We should all be proud of the way these women represent our country in their quest to win another World Cup and not question when they win by a plethora of goals.
However, with everything said, all of the other teams will gun for them even harder now and that is something that hopefully the team understands and is ready for moving forward.
The next game is Sunday the 16th at 12 p.m. vs. Chile. It is expected to be another blowout in Team USA’s favor. Just…maybe not by 13 goals.
