The Orlando Magic are reportedly interested in signing the Cavaliers GM David Griffin. This was first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports The Vertical.
The Magic are looking at multiple candidates to replace their former GM Rob Hennigan, but they are “intrigued” at the possibility of David Griffin. According to the report, many teams around the NBA believe David Griffin can be lured from the Cavs.
Cavs GM David Griffin’s contract expires at the end of this season. The contract discussions have been stalled for months due to a reported discrepancy in the amount of salary Griffin believes he’s due. Per Wojnarowski’s report, Cavs owner Dan Gilbert has been hesitant to sign David Griffin to a contract that’s on par with the other GM’s of championship contending teams.
I understand Dan Gilbert might be short on cash with the NBA’s highest payroll and Ty Lue’s contract, but David Griffin is an integral part of this team. The Cavs would be making a huge mistake to not extend Griffin’s contract. He built last year’s championship roster and has worked miracles with it this season.
Unless they’re trying to make LeBron the first ever GM/player, I don’t even know who would be a worthy replacement. Griffin basically got Deron Williams for free this season and he’s been amazing. I don’t think you can truly question any move he’s made in the last two seasons. Other teams have to be frothing at the mouth with the idea of him being available at the end of the season.
