One Game: A Literal Potential Microcosm, Sadly

I’m always right.

Just kidding. I actually am wrong so much and I think my parents and siblings like when I’m wrong just so they can point it out and correct me. Wait, this isn’t therapy? Oops.

Anyway, I realized last night (Tues Aug 4) that the Cleveland Guardians’ loss actually was one game that proved the point I made in a previous article about Jose Ramirez – CLICK HERE TO READ (Link also at end of this article)

It was a 6-2 loss to the New York Mets in Cleveland and this one hurts a tad worse because the Mets are actually terrible this year. But here’s the problem with just this single loss…

Well, it proves exactly the point I had. A point I actually hope I’m wrong about regarding JRam and the Guardians as a whole.

After all these trades and moves, it had me excited about the Guard’s chances for even a playoff run. Then, I saw that Ramirez was not in the lineup last night. Shortly after, the media confirmed the reason he was out was because of hand soreness. And I was already nervous before the game because Jose isn’t sitting out a game unless the reason is serious…he’s tough as nails. We all know that even after a difficult surgery recovery.

Anyway, for the Guardians, even with the two new players in the lineup, only scored two runs on seven hits. The losses that make me the angriest are when the pitchers give up 0-3 runs or so and yet the offense doesn’t help the team win. Point being, giving up six runs isn’t going to win a team most games, so this loss isn’t to completely blame on hitting but the entire team.

Jo Adell actually had two hits, one being a double, a walk and scored a run. Nathaniel Lowe came in as a pinch hitter and went 0-2 to close out the game.

It’s great to see Adell already thriving on a new team; however, it isn’t like Lowe not getting a hit is the end of the world.

So, this is the point. Ramirez does not bat every single time. I always point out how baseball is so much different than, say, basketball. But of all the players on the Guardians, he certainly makes the most impact as much as he possibly can in each and every game.

Last night showed my exact fear.

Two new solid bats in the lineup are nice, but with Jose out and the team was only able to score…two runs. They took a loss against a very bad team and it reignited my point in the last article that said what the point of making all these trades is if Ramirez is going to be out for a length of time or simply isn’t himself the rest of the year? There’s no way they can contend without him, despite being only a single player.

And I’ll say it again. I hope I’m wrong. Even with small things in my house, I love playing detective and pointing out why you did this, this, this and this, for this. With the Guardians, it’s why did Jose have to sit out not just for a day of “rest” but literally reported hand soreness.

Something is up. Maybe he’ll play tonight against the Mets and get some hits, make some plays on defense and the bases while calming the nerves of so many fans. This way my parents/brothers can say I was wrong, once again – HAHA!
