This article is purely speculative. We will just be exploring the possibility of a blockbuster trade between the New York Giants and the Cleveland Browns for wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
That being said, there is a pretty strong case for a massive trade between the teams for Odell. The Giants this year made it clear they are looking to move on from Eli Manning. He’s entering his 15th season in the NFL and just turned 37. The Giants need to look for a replacement for Eli Manning. I think the Giants are in love with Josh Rosen. Josh is the quarterback for UCLA and has recently declared for the 2018 NFL draft. Josh is the most talented quarterback in the draft and I honestly think the Giants are in love with him and he is in love with the Giants. He has talked about how he’d love to play for New York instead of Cleveland, but is that enough to take that risk to trade up from second-pick to the first just to select him? It honestly might just be.
If John Dorsey can scare the Giants into thinking that the Browns will take Rosen, we could possibly see a situation play out this year as we did last year with the San Francisco 49ers and the Chicago Bears. If John can scare them that much to make that jump, he could then possibly throw in a second-round pick for Odell. The Browns will jump down to the second pick while the Giants jump up to the first pick and they get one of the Browns second rounders, while the Browns also get Odell. It might sound crazy, but there is a slight chance it could happen.
John Mara, the co-owner of the Giants, discussed how he anticipates that Odell will be a part of the Giants future. He also made it clear that the next general manager, Dave Gettleman, would have to make the decision himself, leaving Odell’s future up in the air. He is such a talented receiver, but he has had a few injuries and every now and then he has a hard time keeping his emotions in check. He will also be an unrestricted free agent in 2019. The Giants might be looking to move on from him because of these reasons and the Browns might be the perfect fit. The Giants can swap picks in the draft to draft their QB for the future while adding a draft pick they can use to draft a replacement receiver for Odell, which would also take care of their contract talks with him. For the Browns, they can still get Baker Mayfield and Saquon Barkley in the draft while adding one of the league’s top receivers to pair with Josh Gordon. Odell would also be back with his LSU and Giants wide receivers coach, Adam Henry. It might sound crazy, but there is always a little sliver of hope that this happens.
