Browns fans eager for the 2019 season might have to wait an extra 24 hours for the season debut.
It’s funny how the universe works, according to Cleveland Browns new wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr in a tweet on Wednesday.
When the former New York Giant tweeted this Wednesday night, an active Browns fanbase swarmed Twitter with ideas on what the season opener could look like.
Some fans were hopeful for a matchup with the Super Bowl winning New England Patriots on national television.
Some fans guessed that Beckham could be hinting a return to the Big Apple to play his former team to open the season. That’s not the case either. The Browns don’t play the Giants this season.
But they do play the New York Jets, who play at MetLife Stadium, where Beckham has played home games throughout his entire career.
Speculation furthered when Beckham Jr. commented on Jamal Adams’s Instagram post where the Jets safety was showcasing the new Jets uniforms.
“See u [in] week one,” Beckham Jr. commented.
This season marks the 50th anniversary of Monday Night Football. The first Monday Night Football game was Browns versus Jets. What better way to commemorate the 50th anniversary than to open the season with Browns and Jets on Monday night?
Plus, the Browns and Jets Thursday Night showdown at First Energy Stadium was one of the best games of 2018, with the emergence of Baker Mayfield at quarterback for the brown and orange.
Not to mention, Gregg Williams, former Browns interim head coach, is the new defensive coordinator for the Jets. Definitely some competitive angst essence there.
There’s countless storylines for a Browns and Jets matchup. The NFL schedules will officially release in a week or so, but it’s fair to speculate that the Browns will be at MetLife Stadium to play the Jets Week 1.
