Nyjer Morgan – Here To Stay
Monday morning, outfielder Nyjer Morgan received some great news. He will be making the Cleveland Indians major league club as a non-roster invitee after playing ball in Japan last year. The career .280 left hander is not going to hit very many home runs, but he’s a speedster that will put the ball in play.
However, if I were him I’d be writing a couple of thank you notes to Indians primary center field Michael Bourn, who will start the season on the 15 day DL with a strained left hamstring. In truth, that’s why Morgan is on this team.
“They told me I made the team,” said Morgan, who came to camp as a non-roster player after spending last year in Japan. “It’s a very exciting day for me, but the work doesn’t stop. It’s unfortunate what happened to Michael, but like I said, I’m going to be a great teammate and whenever he’s ready to come back I’ll slide to the back and do whatever they want me to do.
“It doesn’t matter. I just want to play hard for the Tribe.” (via cleveland.com)
We call him Nyjer Morgan, but his alter-ego is Tony Plush. If Morgan plays well, I’ll call him whatever he wants!
A big congratulations from all of us at CST, and we’re looking forward to a great year!
