The Cavs and Warriors are about ready to battle in what shapes up to be another epic NBA Finals showdown. The two teams have really hit their respective strides over the course of the playoffs and it all comes down to another best-of-seven games series, the third in as many seasons.
While we are all pulling for the Cavs to win, of course, there is that small chance that it doesn’t turn out so well. I think it’s important, no matter what happens, that all fans remember just how special the 2016 title run was, coming back from down 3-1 to shock the world and defeat the Warriors. If the team doesn’t win this year, still no one can take those moments away from us.
Win or lose, this war won’t break a 52-year drought. It won’t be LeBron’s first title in Cleveland. It’ll truly build upon what was already started last year.
I’m not trying to downplay these upcoming finals but instead am asking fans to not forget about last year’s accomplishments, too. What it meant for the city and how great finally winning a title was for us.
But honestly, let’s stop with the fluff for a moment.
There’s nothing more that we’d like to see than the Cavs take down the sellout Kevin Durant and the rest of the Warriors once again. Man, would that feel good.
Here’s to another championship, another parade and a second giant celebration. But remember, a first in anything is always special and in the case of NBA championships, it should be looked at the same way.
