No Boo For You: Deshaun Watson Allows a Different Action Happening By Fans
I really thought there would be booing at Deshaun Watson from the start of the game and until he started to at least play well. If it was a poor overall performance, simply consistent boos. My brother would not stop telling me that winning cures all and the victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would cure all in this case.
Well, this was certainly true.
Now, let me preface by saying that it’s only been three weeks of football. As mentioned before, the Browns were a good Baker Mayfield throw from starting 0-2. Additionally, without Watson’s incredible touchdown pass late in this game, again, it’s a loss. On Sunday, he went 16 of 30 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns with an 88.8 passer rating. The win was 21-18. So, not to be a hater (that I sound like now), but it was a solid start, not amazing from start to finish either. Bottom line is he got the win.
So, there’s the “A win is a win” theory, which is completely acceptable. But looking at these games, it’s not as if the Browns are winning 33-3. Honestly, the team made a lot of penalties, Watson was far from perfect throughout the game and a lot of that was due to horrific play by the offensive line. If it wasn’t for stellar defense carrying the team, it may otherwise have ended the outcome of the game.
So, what now?
I’m giving Watson credit for the wins and I also know that the random booing just for hating the guy won’t happen. At least not any time soon. And even the most noble of fans who would never boo a player just because… well, they knew it was a story everyone was wondering about. That reception coming home for the first regular season game of the year at home… Literally, from the second he was named starter.
The Browns host the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-1 after winning today against Cinci) on Thursday night in Cleveland. That game is going to have so much hype because of how the Browns were able to find a way to win today and, of course, the rivalry as a whole. However, it’s important to remember how many mistakes have been made. The Browns had 12 penalties for 84 yards and were able to overcome them. That may not happen each week and it’s more of a deciding factor depending on the opponent.
Celebrate the win. As said many times, you don’t have to love a player’s personal life to love that the team is winning. Because of the classic saying that “either we win as a team or die as individuals,” quote is perfect in this case as well.
So, we’ll root for THE BROWNS.
And *try* to be happy that a certain someone is finally finding his prime play once again after all of this time that many label a disaster for the franchise. Like it or not, there was a reason the Browns went after Watson and gave him so much money to begin with…
Well, I guess the Browns may not get the first pick, HAHA. Let’s get another win this week!
