In this series, I will write a “Need To Know” article for every Cleveland Guardians playoff game telling you all there is to know after the game is over! The Guardians lost against the New York Yankees in Game 4 of The ALDS, 4-2 at Progressive Field.
The Series is Tied at Two Heading to New York
With the series tied at two after that Yankees 4-2 win, it shifts back to New York for a deciding Game 5. The Yankees were able to avoid elimination. Winner of Game 5 goes to Houston for the ALCS against the Astros.
Yankees Hit That Home Run
It was Harrison Bader in the second inning with the Guardians already down 1-0 that hit a two-run shot to make it a 3-0 game with the Yankees on top. Always felt from that point on that it’d be tough to win.
Guardians Did Fight Back
The Guardians were down 3-0 and did put two runs on the board to make it a 3-2 game. It just wasn’t enough.
Gerrit Cole Pitched Really Well
The Yankees starter went seven innings, gave up only two runs on six hits. He also had eight strikeouts compared to a single walk. This coming on 110 total pitches. Avoided having to go to the bullpen early.
Cleveland Bullpen Saved For Upcoming Game 5
The Guardians didn’t use relievers Trevor Stephan, James Karnichak or Emmanuel Clase in Game 4. Thus, each of these relievers will have two days of rest heading into Game 5. That is crucial.
Guardians Manager Terry Francona is Happy With Where the Team is at
Tito was quoted as saying, “If you would have told me back in, I don’t know, March, we just signed up to play Game 5 in New York, to go to the ALCS, I would have jogged to New York. I mean, this is — I’m excited.”
Well, it certainly will be a thrilling Game 5. Of course, we all wish the Guardians could have closed it out in Game 4. However, the team certainly has a chance in this final game.
