Need To Know: Browns Get Killed By Dolphins

“It’s been a rough stretch for the Cleveland Browns. So much so that I’ve literally written for the firing of head coach Kevin Stefanski and another calling for the firing of defensive coordinator Joe Woods.

HERE FOR WOODS ¬†”

This specific article about the Browns’ 39-17 loss to the Dolphins is a part of my “Need to Know” series which goes through everything you need to know for each Browns game!

They suck. Just kidding. Well, not really but I have more…I promise!

The Browns actually started the game off great with a drive that ended with a one-yard pass to tight end Harrison Bryant for the score. It’s 7-0 Browns and things are looking good on the road in Miami.

The problem with The Dawgs is sustaining anything and that showed in this one.

Let’s take a look at the stats.

The Cleveland defense gave up 491 total yards (296 passing and 195 rushing). They only got one single sack and made no turnovers. Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa went 25/32 for 285 yards and three touchdowns. It was simply a walk in the park for the pass thrower against these Browns.

Additionally, running back Jeff Wilson Jr. had 119 yards rushing on 17 carries and one touchdown. Now, this isn’t Jim Brown we are talking about or anything. It’s a very average rusher that looked amazing against this defense.

Flipping to the Browns and some notable stats were the team went 5/12 on third-down. That’s simply not going to cut it. A common theme for quarterback Jacoby Brissett is mediocrity. He went 22/35 for 212 yards and a touchdown. Those aren’t terrible numbers, but nothing to write home about.

Nick Chubb only rushed 11 times and that is unacceptable. Now, when the team falls down by multiple touchdowns, it’s hard to keep running. Even so, part of it was the play-calling from the beginning. Only had 63 total yards, but did score a touchdown. It was on a great 33-yard score in the 4th quarter. Unfortunately, the game was basically over by then…

The Dolphins were simply the better team. Despite the hot start for Cleveland, it meant nothing. The Browns are now 3-6 with a daunting matchup in Buffalo against the Bills. Also, it’s supposed to snow like crazy for that game. May actually help the Browns with those conditions…

Last note: Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is allowed to practice with the team now and will be able to play Week 13 in Houston against the Texans. Thus, there’s the aforementioned Buffalo game, at home against quarterback Tom Brady and the Buccaneers and then it’s time for the real show to begin.

Is this season over? Well, not technically. However, it certainly feels like it after Sunday’s outing.
