Cleveland Guardians’ nine-game home winning streak was snapped on Sunday when they lost to Washington Nationals 5-2. It’s their longest home winning streak since 2017. This is the best Gurdians team since that 2016-2017 group. Cleveland has been playing great baseball and it starts with their leader their baseman Jose Ramirez. He is having an MVP-caliber season. Ramirez is hitting .272 with 16 homers. Josh Naylor is also giving the Guardians some spark offensively.

As for Sunday’s game, things didn’t go too well for Cleveland. They gave up four runs in the second inning. Washington set the tone by scoring first and they never led the Guardians to catch up to them. Cleveland did respond with two runs in the bottom of the second inning but that was it. No more damage was done after that. Much credit to the Nationals pitching starting with Jake Irvin. He struck out six Guardians’ batters through six innings. Carlos Carrasco didn’t have his good stuff on Sunday. His record drops to 2-5 with a 5.66 ERA.

The Guardians were missing an important bag in their lineup, Andres Gimenez. The second baseman missed his second straight game with “soreness” without being specific. Gimenez is expected to return Tuesday night when Cleveland opens a three-game series against Kansas City. That’s going to be a fascinating series. You have two good offensive teams playing in the same division about to collide. We hope this series turns out to be a good one. There is a lot of good young talent on both sides of the dugout with a blend of veteran leadership (Jose Ramirez and Salvador Perez)

Kansas Coty is in second place, trailing four games behind the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the AL Central division.
