Myles Garrett Can’t Do It All
This has always been something that’s bothered me, yet it was especially true in Sunday’s Browns loss to the Patriots, 32-13, making Cleveland 2-6 on the season.
The exciting part of the win?
Well, DE Myles Garrett had FIVE sacks, which is a record for the team. But wait…we lost…by a lot…right?
Right!
Honestly, it makes sense that fans and analysts alike show extreme admiration for Garrett. However, he only accounts for one position or part of the field. Additionally, he only plays on one side of the ball and he doesn’t carry as much significance as, say, a quarterback does in a game.
This is by no means to dispute Garrett’s ability to play his position. It’s more so to criticize everyone else on the team, especially the coaching staff and such. After all, Garrett is one of the best to ever play the defensive end spot and that’s what honestly makes this even more sad.
This isn’t basketball, where a player like LeBron James can completely carry an entire team and win a game for them throughout the entire affair and frankly, even a whole season. We saw that especially back in LeBron’s first few years in Cleveland.
Again, this is football and not basketball. It takes a lot more to have success as a team.
It’s unfortunate to see that Garrett’s ability continues to go to waste throughout this entire season and frankly, most of all of his previous years (Drafted First Overall By the Browns in 2017)
There’s video of Garrett slamming his helmet in frustration during Sunday’s loss on the sideline. Who could blame him after that performance by his quarterback, coaching staff and beyond. It was such an awful performance, even after the team started off with a 7-3 lead, that it gave some hope to begin.
So, what now?
Well, this season is pretty much over.
I think it’s time the team decided to fire Kevin Stefanski and that would be a starting point for sure. However, it looks like a rebuild project is what’s going to have to happen, even with a new coach.
Myles, thank you for the job you’ve done as a player for the Browns. I wish that the effects were more beneficial for the overall outcome of the team. With the current record, it’s a bunch of nothing that each of his pass rushes mean throughout the year. A year that’s already practically over…
