My Final Browns 53 Player Roster
On Tuesday, August 30 by 4:00 pm Eastern, NFL teams have to reduce their rosters to a maximum of 53 players. At Noon on August 31, teams can start to establish their 16-player practice squads. Much has been made of Browns GM Andrew Berry claiming a wide receiver or a defensive tackle after the league cuts are established. It will all depend on the player and the salary involved. Here’s my best guess on the Browns final 53-player roster.
Quarterback (2). Jacoby Brissett, Josh Dobbs. Josh Rosen or another QB will be added to the practice squad.
Running Back (4). Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, D’Ernest Johnson, Jerome Ford. Johnson or Hunt could be traded. Mike Kelly might again make the practice squad.
Tight End (3). David Njoku, Harrison Bryant, claimed player. Miller Forristall, Johnny Stanton or Nakia Griffin-Stewart might make the roster, but I think a cut player is more likely.
Wide Receiver (6). Amari Cooper, Donovan Peoples-Jones, Anthony Schwartz, David Bell, Michael Woods, Demetric Felton. There is a potential for a player from another roster, but I just don’t see it yet.
Offensive Line (10). Jedrick Wills, Joel Bitonio, Michael Dunn, Wyatt Teller, Jack Conklin, Ethan Pocic, James Hudson, Chris Hubbard, Hjalte Froholdt and Drew Forbes. Froholdt is the surprise.
Defensive Ends (5). Myles Garrett, Jadeveon Clowney, Isaac Rochell, Alex Wright, Isaiah Thomas. This position is the most settled in my opinion. Winovich didn’t help himself with injuries, might be placed on IR.
Defense Tackles (4). Taven Bryan, Jordan Elliott, Perrion Winfrey, Tommy Togiai. If the right player from another roster is cut, Togiai is the odd man out.
Linebacker (6). Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Anthony Walker, Jacob Phillips, Sione Takitaki, Dakota Allen, Jordan Kunaszyk. Allen and Kunaszyk are valuable special teamers.
Cornerback (5). Denzel Ward, Greg Newsome, Greedy Williams, Martin Emerson, A.J. Green. If Greedy Williams is traded Shaun Jolly can make the roster, right now he’s a practice squad candidate.
Safety (5). John Johnson, III, Grant Delpit, D’Anthony Bell, Ronnie Harrison, Richard LeCounte. Jovante Moffatt could replace LeCounte, but it could be a player cut from another team.
Kicker (1). Cade York. The Browns have found their kicker.
Punter (1). Corey Bojorquez. Punted well in the preseason.
Long Snapper (1). Charlie Hughlett. Always reliable.
Between Tuesday, August 30 and prior to the game on September 11, the bottom of the roster may change a little. But as I said earlier in this article, if the right player becomes available, GM Andrew Berry will do what he can to make this roster better.
