2.7.14: The Lake Erie Monsters took on the Toronto Marlies at the “Q” last Friday looking to get out of the 15th position in the Western conference. This game was highlighted as these two teams combined for 200 minutes. Brad Malone opened the scoring when he tipped in a shot from Brett Clark, which gave the Monsters the 1-0 lead which was held throughout the first period. In the second period Matt Hunwick went on a break away and was denied, but he grabbed his own rebound and scored to give the Monsters a 2-0 lead. As the third period got underway the Monsters strike again as Paul Carey scored the Monsters third goal of the night. Spencer Abbott and Jerry D’Amigo added a pair of goals in the final 2:41 for Toronto, but still come up short as the Monsters win 3-2.
2.8.14: Saturday the Monsters took to the road to take on the Marlies. Colin Smith opened the scoring for the night to put the Monsters up 1-0. With 1:22 left in the first period Josh Leivo scores on the power play for the Marlies. Brandon Kozun scored a goal while Josh Leivo scored two(for the hat trick) all in the second period which the Monsters could not overcome which ended in a 4-1 score in favor of the Marlies.
2.9.14: Sunday the Monsters where on the road to take on the Hamilton Bulldogs. The Bulldogs come out the gate and scored an early goal. Christian Thomas was credited the goal as this would be the Bulldogs only goal of the game. The Monsters proceeded to get four goals. David van der Gulik scored a two goals in the last 3:54 of the second period. Matt Hunwick and Michael Schumacher scored the final two goal to give the monsters a 4-1 win.
Upcoming Week: 2.15.14 and 2.16.14 both in Charlotte vs the Checkers.
Side Notes: The Monsters are currently in 13th place in the conference, being 10 points behind the 8th seeded Milwaukee Admirals. The Monsters must continue to gain ground and move up the ladder for their playoff hopes to stay alive.
