MLB Offseason Update 11/19
Cardinals-Braves Trade:
The Braves made a trade with the Cardinals on Monday that sent OF Jason Heyward and RP Jordan Walden to St.Louis for pitcher Shelby Miller and a minor league player. The Trade was a good fit for Atlanta, in need of rotation help. Heyward is set to become a free agent after the 2015 Season.
Russel Martin signs with Toronto:
Catcher Russel Martin has agreed to a 5-year $82 million dollar contract with his home town Toronto Blue Jays. The contract does not include a no-trade clause according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Martin’s deal is the second largest in Blue Jays team history.
Stanton, Marlins agree to historic 13 year, $325 Million Dollar Extension:
The Marlins have agreed to a contract extension with Outfielder Giancarlo Stanton. The contract is for 13 years and $325 million, the largest in the history of professional sports. Andy Martino of the New York Daily News reports that the deal has been finalized and a press conference will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday of this week to announce the extension. Stanton hit .288 with 37 home runs in 2014 before being hit by a pitch on September 12th, suffering multiple facial fractures, and having his season ended two weeks early.
