After the Becky Lynch eliminated her arch-nemesis Charlotte Flair sending the 48 thousand fans at Chase Field into hysteria, Lynch clearly had her eye on one woman: The Baddest B*tch on the Planet Ronda Rousey. With the Women’s Revolution picking up more steam, with Becky Lynch gaining more momentum as WWE’s hottest star, and with arguably the most influential female combat star ever, why not have these two in the main event in the “granddaddy of them all.”
Lynch/Rousey were supposed to square off at Survivor Series back in November before Lynch suffered broken nose which caused her to miss the match. The night Lynch busted her nose at the hands of Nia Jax, Becky Lynch and several of the female stars from Smackdown invaded Raw on the eve of Survivor Series which turned into one of the signature moments of 2018. We didn’t get to see the match at Survivor Series, but we will now get to see it on the grandest stage of them all WrestleMania.
Why this match is so intriguing is because the path these two ladies took to get here. Becky Lynch nearly gave up wrestling after a serious neck injury. Becky Lynch battled and choose to stay the course, now she is the hottest star in WWE. Then you have the baddest women walking the face of the earth, Ronda Rousey. Rousey took over UFC and became it’s shining bright star in a sport that was dominated by men. Rousey became the first ever female to main event a UFC PPV. Rousey stepped away from UFC and managed to find her way into a WWE ring. Rousey’s timing to sign with WWE could’ve not been at a better time.
Never in the history of WrestleMania has a women’s match been the main event. But the time may come. The women’s revolution has been rising. Back in October WWE had it’s first ever all-women’s PPV in “Evolution.” Which turned into a great hit with the fans. Just in the past year the women have been featured in matches such as the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and the Money in the Bank matches, matches in which women had never participated in before.
Let’s be honest nobody wants to see Brock Lesnar murder someone for 12 minutes in another main event at WrestleMania. Vince McMahon needs to do what’s best for business. Your most popular star right now is a female (Becky Lynch). You have a famed groundbreaking fighter in Ronda Rousey. Put these two in the main event. It begs the question will the Women’s Revolution reached it’s pinnacle by having Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey main event in the biggest sports-entertainment spectacular of them all. Only time will tell.
