The 19th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes hosted the IUPUI Jaguars yesterday and I know exactly what you are thinking, what school is that? IUPUI stands for Indiana University Purdue University Indiana. The Jaguars came into this game with one win and 14 losses. Ohio State quickly got out to a 7-0 lead. IUPUI would battle back to cut the Buckeye lead to six points. Ohio State continued to space the floor, which provided them with a plethora of scoring chances. Ohio State was able to capitalize on those opportunities. At halftime, the Buckeyes were leading the Jaguars 37-24.
The Buckeyes found their groove early on in the second half, as they made five out of six shots. Ohio State tightened up their defense as they blocked multiple shots. Ohio State’s offense exploded, as they put up 46 points in the half. Ohio State won by a lopsided margin, as the final score was Ohio State 83 and IUPUI 37. The Buckeyes had three players who scored double-digit points. Sophomore guard Eugene Brown III registered 14 points and had four rebounds. Senior guard Cedric Wilson had 12 points and one assist. Junior forward E.J. Liddell scored 13 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.
It was a shocker that this game was ever close, no disrespect to the Jaguars, but the Buckeyes are a top team in the country every year. Ohio State has plenty of work to do, as they had eight turnovers in the game. They shot 57.1% from the floor and shot 84.2% from the foul line. That is a positive and something that they can build off for their next game. Ohio State improves to 12 wins and four losses and will host Nebraska this Saturday.
