While many knew James returned to Miami during the 2nd week of January, few knew of his talks with ex-teammate Ray Allen. LeBron James, James Jones, and Mike Miller have stayed in contact with Allen throughout the previous off-season and during the current season. Allen also has ties with assistant coach Tyronn Lue, who coached Allen in Boston. Having Allen join the Wine and Gold before the season started almost happened, but as the season approached the chances of Allen throwing on a Cavaliers uniform became smaller and smaller. Allen told teams that inquired for his business to check back with him in January. With the recent mentions of returning, Allen stated, “At my age, I need to stay in shape”.
Allen hasn’t played since the Finals loss against the San Antonio Spurs on June 15, 2014. It’s obvious that even a skilled shooter like Allen would be rusty with a seven month absence from play. Allen, who would provide great bench play, would add to the 3 point shooting depth for the Wine and Gold. Allen currently has the most 3 pointers made in a career with 2973.
